My name is Courtney Snuggs. I am the Speech Pathologist at Odenville Elementary. This is my seventh year to work with the students at OES. I help children who have difficulty saying sounds or communicating with others. I received my B.S. degree in Communication Disorders at Auburn University and a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology at Auburn University. I have been married for six years and have a little girl who is 20 months old. I enjoy watching Auburn football, sewing and
going to the beach.
My procedure for determining initial eligibility begins with consulting the IEP team that includes the child’s parent, general education teacher, administrator and myself. The student can be referred for articulation, voice, fluency, and/or language disorders. The long term goal for children with an articulation impairment would be to correctly articulate all sounds in error in conversation. The short term goals will focus on the child learning to say the sound at the isolation, syllable, word, phrase, and sentence level in all positions of words. A language disorder can consist of expressive and/or receptive loss of language. A long term goal would be to increase the child’s receptive and expressive language abilities to age appropriate standards. The short term goals would be determined by the child’s specific language need. These can include oral or written language abilities. I determine my goals and benchmarks by using the specific area of communication difficulty my students possess. My case-load includes students with articulation and language impairments, as well as behavior problems. I use a sequence of goals that follow their current grade curriculum. I work closely with their general education classroom teacher for generalization to the classroom environment. The criterion for
each goal is set to correspond with age level norms and
grade level expectations.
